Happy Sunday everyone – and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in the UK, of which I’m one…meaning today has started well with breakfast in bed and almond croissants. Now I’m just hoping the weather holds out as we’re due to make our first English Heritage visit of the year today. It feels like a nice end to a busy week- mainly work but I also got to celebrate a friend’s engagement with cocktails in a rather swish bar in London (at rather un-swish prices I must say but then it is London).
This meant I spent a lot of time on trains and should have had lots of time to read. However, I was in a bit of a reading slump for some reason so, other than The Well (which I did an intro for Tuesday), I didn’t read much else. When I got home, all I wanted to do was veg in front of the tv, especially now House of Cards is back!
I did, conversely, do a fair bit of book buying, picking up Driven by James Sallis, the follow-up to Drive (which I loved), Smoke by Catherine McKenzie, which I’ve been wanting to read for a while, and The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood, my favourite author probably ever (links are to good reads).
Hopefully I’ll get round to reading one or more of them this week. what about you? What are your reading plans this week?

One Readers Thoughts 
Between writing (the fourth crime novel in the series), administrative stuff (the publisher just bought historical novel # 2 and contracts are due), promotion (my second crime novel just hit Amazon) and cleaning the bathrooms (The Child Bride lets me see to the task), I’m reading a Stuart Woods novel. Breathing and eating are optional this week.

I can’t believe you have time to read. But then I would never find the time to write, much as part of me would want to.

Only in doctor’s office waiting rooms (Jeepers, you could finish a novel there) or while The Child Bride is browsing the thrift shops and I’m in the car in the parking lot. At home I work. But I do like to work and writing really doesn’t seem like work after all.

I think it is my first time here! Love the logo 🙂 Happy British Mother’s day 🙂 I have been in a reading slump for month now (in and out) and after taking break and changing genres I realized changing format was very helpful. I’m back at reading real books now. Hope you get over your reading slump soon

Oh Margaret Atwoods books always leave me with the heebie jeebies. She makes you uncomfortable but you can’t stop thinking about her books. The Handmaidens tale is still on my mind years after I read it. And don’t even get me started on Oryx and Crake.

They do make you think…I loved both the handmaids tale and oryx and crake. They just make me fear for the future.

Happy Mother’s Day! Ours is May and I think I need to make sure almond croissants get incorporated because that sounds amazing. I definitely have weeks where I’m not feeling like reading and the call of TV is stronger. I’ve found if I fight it I end up in a serious reading slump. I’m really curious about Smoke. I hope you enjoy the Margaret Atwood which is another book I keep meaning to pick up but having had mixed success with her books I keep dithering about it.

I am lucky I get to being married to an American because theirs is in May too. Making that two lot of breakfasts in bed 😀. I know a lot of people struggled with the heart goes last but I just can’t resist Atwood.
