Weekly update: 20th August, 2017

Weekly updateHi all and happy Sunday.  I hope you are having a good week and a good weekend.  Today, the sun is shining so I am happy – it’s been very up and down this summer and I am starting to panic we won’t be getting the weather we need to BBQ again before winter roles around (sorry to sound so depressing!).

Saying that, I doubt we will get to cook out today as we have too much to do.  My in-laws are visiting next week and my spare bedroom looks like a bomb has hit it and I daren’t even go into my daughter’s bathroom – which they’ll be sharing – so I will be spending the day tidying  Maybe if I get all more chores done there will be a veggie burger and a beer at the end of it?

The week itself has flown by.  I had Monday off so it was a short week – always good – and I’m in countdown to leaving work, which means I am doing a lot of getting sorted to handover to the new me vs. starting anything new.  I thought I might feel a bit strange as I was the first person to have my job so I built it up from a person specification but I feel a mixture of relief, excitement and fear with my new ventures and no regrets.

I also got some blogging done.  Here’s a recap of my posts….

On Monday, I reviewed Emma In The Night by Wendy Walker, which I really enjoyed and thought was clever in that I thought I was reading one story when in fact another was being laid out in front of me.

On Tuesday, I shared my latest read, A Pocketful of Crows by Joanne M. Harris, though I won’t be reviewing it until October-ish.  It was a book I couldn’t resist picking up as I love Harris’ other books and this one sounded like a great read.

On Thursday, I reviewed At Wave’s End by Patricia Perry Donovan, which is not my normal type of read but which I enjoyed anyways as it dealt with issues we all face (though possibly in  more dramatic way here than in my life) – love and family relationships.  Plus it was set by the beach, my favourite place to be so how could I resist?

On Friday, I took place in the book blogger hop, talking about whether I feel disappointed if I go into a person’s home and don’t see books.

Yesterday, I shared the books I’d added to the shelves (yes, all of the above!), which is more than my usual weeks and has made me put myself on a Netgalley ban till the number of review books comes down.

And that is it for me.  How about you?  What have you been up to, reading or otherwise?  Let me know – I’m nosey!

Emma x

    • Exciting and scary. I can’t wait though. I thought I had read all the Sophie Hannah books but then I saw this and realised I hadn’t so couldn’t resist.

    • I know. I try to stick to three books a week and one reviewed, one requested on net galley but it all went a bit wrong…in a good way I guess!

  1. A Pocketful of Crows looks very interesting, though maybe a bit bleak for me just now… I know about rushing around getting the house ready – we only discovered this morning the children are staying over tonight until Tuesday and they were sharing last time so it’s going to be a major effort to rush around and get it all sorted out… Have a lovely time with your guests:).

  2. I loved Emma in the Night…and have been eyeing that Sophie Hannah book. I have another of hers coming to my physical mailbox: Did You See Melody?

Enjoy your week, and I can relate to that last minute tidying for guests. I don’t have sleepover guests very often, so the last really thorough cleaning was probably when my son and DIL came…two summers ago!

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • Yes, I’ve been seeing good reviews for Did You Melody…it’s on the list! I am now pleased to say my living room is spotless. The rest of the house is still a bombsite.

  3. What a lot of lovely books you’ve added to your shelves there – I’ve read four of them (all very good especially Blood Wedding) and also have a copy of Foster Child. Hope you have a good week ahead, I can’t think of a year when we’ve had fewer BBQs – a sad summer!

    • No, the weather has been just the wrong side of cool for eating out. Still, there is a little of summer left so fingers crossed. I am a bit anxious about so many books. It certainly wasn’t intentional but they all look so good I am determined to get through (martyr that I am 😀)

  4. Emma in the Night is on my list for a Fall read. WE grill in the dead of winter. No, that is wrong. Mr. Caffeinated braves the elements and grills in the dead of winter for us..LOL Hope, you get some nicer weather and enjoy your reads!

    • I think my husband would be out there rain or shine but for me it’s the earring out too. I have a whole deck calling me but it’s just that little bit too chilly too be comfortable even when the sun shines. Rubbish!

  6. Good luck with that NetGalley ban — I usually fail at such things. I’ll never catch up with my review books. 🙂

We grill all year round, even though we live where it gets cold and snows.

    • Thanks. I think I’ll feel better when I get a few down and I am back with having time to spare. My other half would cook out all year but I like the eating out but, which is what I’m missing.

  7. I left my job in June but I don’t think it will really hit me until school starts again and I don’t go. I have been working my way through my previous NetGalley binges but haven’t seen much new lately that I wanted. Maybe I’ll finally be able to read some things from my TBR mountain. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    • No, I don’t think I will really feel it until end September when work is done and I have to put my dreams into action. I definitely need to get my net galley list down – but I don’t want to miss out on other reads either.

  8. I really need to take a NetGalley break or focus on those books so I can make a dent in the pile. It sounds like you have a lot going on right now. Enjoy all of your new books and have a great week!
