Morning all and welcome to another Sunday and another weekly update. I hope you had a good one. Mine wasn’t bad at all if I do say so myself. I was back in the blogging swing after a week off to catch up on reading (which was much needed and gave me a bit of my oomph back as I had been feeling a bit flat about the blog if I’m honest).
I also did my final proper week of work, which felt strange but also pretty good. I’m still employed for another week but the rest of my time will be taken up training up and handing over to the “new me”, so there won’t be much real work involved – I won’t have a laptop or phone after Wednesday for a start, which will make it kinda difficult to do anything!
After that there will be no rest for the wicked as I’ll be straight into finishing off my management qualification (which I started a year ago and needs to get done) at the same time as setting up for myself. I keep being told I should take a break and I may take it easy for a few days but I’m worried if I stop completely I may find it difficult to start again. I will, though, be hopefully finding more time to read as I won’t be doing 9 to 5 anymore.
On other notes, there isn’t much to report. I bought a shiny new (and bright purple!) laptop to support me in my new endeavours, which I’m loving typing on right now is probably my biggest news – see an exciting life!
Oh and I managed to post every day last week. Here’s what I wrote…
On Monday, I posted my review of Cold Blood by Robert Bryndza, which is the fifth in the Erika Foster series and another cracker from Bryndza. This is one of my favourite detective series for the characters (I love Erika) and the plots, which I always find keep me interested right till the last page.
On Tuesday, I introduced my latest read – Dear Amy by Helen Callaghan – which is about a missing child (I can’t seem to help myself reading books about missing children) and, whilst I haven’t read as much as I would have liked to this week, I will say so far, so good.
One Wednesday, I reviewed Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty, which was my first disappointing read in quite a while. I just couldn’t get away with the characters or the story. It was just a little (well, a lot) too long for me and I found myself drifting more than once.
On Thursday, I asked what When is a discussion a discussion (or not?), because – as someone who is taking part in a discussion challenge – I realised I wasn’t quite sure where the line between linky, list and actual discussion falls.
On Friday, I reviewed Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine, my first Rachel Caine book but it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed this book, which put me back on track after Truly, Madly, Guilty.
Yesterday, I joined in with Stacking the Shelves and had to admit I had fallen off the Netgalley wagon with a collection of new review copies plus a few purchased books as well (I realised I hadn’t added my library reads after I’d hit published – probably a good thing as I might have cried when I realised how much I have to read!).
And that’s it! All done. How about you – how was your week, reading and otherwise? Let me know, I’m nosey!

Ooh I like the purple laptop! And good for you going out on your own- best of luck!!
Cold Blood looks great. I was underwhelmed with Truly, Madly, Guilty as well- especially after Big Little Lies. And Stillhouse Lake- lovely cover, really need to read that one!

I wish I had read another Moriarty book now…oh well, you can’t win them all…even with a purple laptop 😜

Haha I’m sorry, but seriously, the purple is gorgeous. Looking at your books, it seems like you love mystery, thriller and some historical fiction. Am I right?
Have a great week! This is my first time on your blog, and it absolutely looks beautiful 😀

Thank you. You are right on the thrillers and mystery but not so much historical fiction vs. Non-fiction…why make something up when kings and queens are so murderous?

Glad you managed to get back into both reading AND blogging 🙂 always a good thing. Your new PC is cute! My boyfriend had one like that for his work. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a good computer xD I hope yours works great and shares only looks with the one we had 😀
You have some interesting historical books here!
Enjoy your week and I hope everything goes well with your new endeavours 🙂

Me too. I am hoping the laptop is fine. To be honest, I went basic because I won’t need much more than work etc, and we have a family PC too if I need heavy lifting if that makes sense. I just like the idea of being portable. Now I’m not beholden to anyone I have a vision of me working in coffee shops and things…though likely I’ll just end up at my desk!

That’s true! I have a tiny one too, about the same size, but not as pretty 😀 but it’s so good! I can truly recommend ThinkPads. Must be why they use them at the International Space Station! Hm, but I don’t know if I could work in a coffee shop. I’m one of those fragile people who need silence for work 😀 like, I can work in a place with loads of ambient sound, but I just get so battered and tired, like you have no idea. Plus, working from home kind of works out if you love working in your PJs, which I absolutely do 😀 😀

Congrats on your new adventure, and I LOVE the purple laptop!
Enjoy…and have fun with your reading, too. I’m eyeing The Vanishing Box, as I have yet to try this series, but enjoyed the author’s Ruth Galloway mysteries.
Have a wonderful week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

All the very best in your final week at work, winding everything up. I love the new purple laptop – you’re so right about having colour in your new working life and I wish you all the luck in the world in your new venture. I’m already sure you have talent and strong work ethic, but everyone needs luck…

What is they say – 10% talent and 90% luck? I need a lot of luck. But I know if I don’t try then I will never know.

Oh absolutely – and that statistic? I think it is overly pessimistic. In my experience, a lot of so-called luck is made by steady solid graft behind the scenes… And you’re right – if you don’t give it a go, you’ll always wonder.

I almost picked up Truly Madly Guilty a few months back and someone else told me they were disappointed as well so I did not buy it after all. I did love the entire Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series but I had a hard time getting into it at first because the character names were so hard to figure out. Did you feel the same at all? I did love it once I got past that first few chapters though. Have a great week!
