It’s being a while since I took part in a book blogger hop but, today, the urge struck and – unlike the last few weeks – the question was one I could answer with more than one sentence (one sentence always seems like such a waste of a post).
The other nice thing about this week, after writing three reviews back to back, is that it’s not about books. It’s about movies…
Off the book topic – What is your favourite scary movie?
So, when it comes to scary movies I have to say I am a bit of wimp. I think I want to be scared – but, when it comes down to it, I don’t really. I blame my parents (who doesn’t?), who let me watch scary movies as a child, thinking because they were old and in black and white they were harmless. How wrong they were!
It’s a toss-up between the two films that scared me most as a child – The Children of the Damned and Invasion of the Body Snatchers – either way, I still find myself watching with half an eye nowadays…
If you watch the trailers, feel free to laugh- I know they seem tame compared to what’s on offer nowadays but there you go – scarred for life! My scare-ometer stops at teen horrors like Wrong Turn and The Grudge.
Anything above that, I spend too much time hiding behind a pillow asking my husband “is it over yet?” to know what is going on. What about you – do you like scary movies..and, if so which ones?
Emma x
I love scary movies, and have liked them for as long as I can remember, although I’m not sure I really ever saw anything scarier than Gremlins before I was a teenager.
Have a great weekend.

I do the one eyed thing too. I don’t know why watching the movie through my fingers makes me feel safer but it somehow does! I don’t think I’ve seen any of the black and white horror movies but I could definitely see how they wouldn’t be harmless!

It does make them seem less scary I agree. The music too – if I’m really frightened I block my ears.

My sister is the same way, hiding behind pillows 🙂

I did like Village of the Damned but far preferred the book – The Midwich Cuckoos – have you read it?

No, never read the book. I didn’t even know there was one so I will check it out x

It’s quite old, but I think it’s still in print – the author is John Wyndham, he of The Day of Triffids fame…

One of TV shows that scared me to death as a child too – I see a pattern!

Ah… if you haven’t ever read the books, then you’re in for a treat. I loved him when I was a teenager and revisited some of his books a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised at just how well they’d aged:) Maybe your local library will keep some copies…

Oh do – I’d love to know what you think of his books. He’s one of the authors that defined my tastes in reading…

Things like SAW are just too gory for me. Scream I can cope with – mainly for Neve Campbell.

I wish I could. It feels silly being scared by a film so old but those eyes….

I watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers as a part of my Sci-Fi module at Uni. It definitely blends the unknown with horror elements and is an unsettling watch.

Unsettling is a good word. I have never seen your choice but as it involves going underground and that is scary enough I may have to pass !
