This week, next week: 17th July, 2016

Happy Sunday everyone – I hope you are having a good week and that the sun is shining as much where you are as it has here this weekend. It feels like summer has finally arrived and I hope it continues as the school holidays are due to start here next week and there is nothing worse than trying to entertain a six year old in the rain.

So I can have plenty of free time during the break, I have been working like a crazy woman, including quite a bit of travelling, which means my blogging (writing and visiting) is still not quite back on track. I am visiting blogs at random times, and not as many as I normally do, and am sure I’m missing on some great post. It just feels like it can’t be helped. I am managing to get some reviews posted though…

My Sister’s Grave by Robert Dugoni was a book I was excited to read and wasn’t disappointed by. It was a clever piece of crime writing with a really likeable central character. I am hooked and will be reading the rest of the series if they are all this goo.

The Girl With No Past by Kathryn Croft had been sat on my Kindle for ages and I couldn’t actually remember what it was about when I started reading. I’m glad I did start though as it was a tense suspense (rhyming not intended) that kept me turning the pages and, for once, a final twist that didn’t leave me wondering why it had been added on.

The travelling does mean that I have had lots of time on trains to read, I just haven’t written up on the books. I really need to plan ahead for those busy days but I do so much of that at work I hate to do it with my hobbies. How do others cope with busy periods – do you plan or just not post and not worry? And how was your week – any recommended reads?

  1. I’m like you at the moment Emma, having been incredibly busy – I do try to plan ahead but if I don’t have time, I don’t beat myself up about it. Reading and blogging is a hobby and I know when things quieten down I’ll get back on track. Enjoy the summer holidays 😊

  2. I do try to plan ahead but it’s not always possible. It always seems to work out in the end though. I’m keen on Girl With No Past, I’ve seen some good reviews and it looks like a lot of fun. Hope your school holidays g well!

  3. Yes… I do plan ahead. But sometimes I miss a few days and then just shrug my shoulders. At the end of the day, this is my hobby and if I start getting stressed about it, then it stops being fun. And I insist that it STAYS fun. A book I’ve recently read that I’m recommending to everyone is Woman of the Hour by Jane Lythell – I got it at her book launch on Thursday and finished it in two gulps – and yes… although I got the hardcopy, it has also been released on Kindle. It’s a really entertaining, enjoyable read that’s a bit different. Have a great week! https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/07/17/sunday-post-17th-july/

  4. I’ve been loving this summer weather and spend a lot of time outside, whether it’s reading on the patio, piddling (not peeing) in the pool or working in the yard, so I don’t get to as many blogs as I would like either. I hope you enjoy those good looking books.

    • I don’t think you can waste the sunshine. We were out in it all day again today. Plus it makes everyone smile more so the world is a friendlier place!

  5. Sometimes if I feel I will be away from my blog I will just post a note on my blog saying that life has gotten in the way of blogging and that I am taking a break and will be back in a bit, or that I won’t be posting as much as usual. Though missing a few days I don’t think is going to make people think you quit blogging, we all know that some times life gets in the way and it can be hard to schedule things in advance.

    Have a great week!

    • Even posting a note take planning – I always seem to get hit or surprised though I shouldn’t. I may try it next time though or take a purposeful break when I know I’m swamped.

    • We may have solved all summer entertainment with the purchasing of a trampoline (though sure it won’t be that easy and I may have had more fun than she did!). My visiting becomes sporadic but also rushed, which I hate, but something has to give I guess.

  6. I am such a ridiculous planner! I can only manage business by planning EVERYTHING. But, thats just me! I wish sometimes I could just let it go and not post 🙂 Have a great week!

    • I admire people who are so disciplined but I can’t seem to manage it. I think it is because my work is so deadline driven I push against it everywhere else. Thanks for visiting and have a good week.

  7. I’m not much of a planner when it comes to my blog. I write posts when the mood strikes and if I’m away , or too busy, there are none. I do try to stick with a weekly update and at least two other posts though. Hope your good weather continues into the school holidays!

    • I wonder for me if its because I spend so much time at work working to deadlines I have no control over….or I’m just lazy! The weatherman has said the word mini-heatwave today so fingers crossed x

  8. I’m right there with you! We moved a few weeks ago and I’m struggling to keep the blog going. I feel like I’ve missed out visiting my favorite bloggers, replying to comments and even keeping up with the blog’s social media. I’ve just been so busy!!! Hoping that slows down for both of us 😉

  9. I try to plan but sometimes I just need R&R. I think it’s only going to get worse as by schedule gets busier for the rest of the year, so I’m going to try to plan/get ahead. Famous last words 😉

  10. I liked My Sister’s Grave too. I try to keep ahead on my blogs so that busy times don’t derail my progress there. Summer is a great time for me to get way ahead on reading and reviews. Come see my reading week here. Happy reading!

  11. I hope you get a breather soon. Sometimes you just have to let things roll and do what you want on your blog when you can and want. It’s a hobby!

    • They were both good reads. You are right you can only do too much. Spent today on a train reading and not worrying about anything else 😉
